Walk in God’s Love with Humility and Boldness

The Love of God in Us Prevents the Influence of the World but Separates Us for Him

Jesus demonstrated love without allowing the world to influence Him. Therefore, His confidence in God and His purpose remained firm. He instructed His disciples, “Be wise as serpents and harmless as doves” (Matt. 10:16), a principle He demonstrated throughout His ministry.

When the Pharisees tried to trap Jesus, they first acknowledged who He was and then questioned Him (Matt. 22:15–22). Jesus discerned their intention and did not react emotionally. His response left them marveling. He respected earthly authority while honoring God.

When a woman caught in adultery was brought before Him, Jesus did not condemn the person for her sinful act. He said, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” Her accusers departed, and Jesus did not condemn her (Jn. 8:3–11). His response brought restoration rather than destruction.

Genuine love does not react to a situation but responds appropriately. The love of God poured into our hearts is not merely emotional but a firmly established conviction to honor God in every situation and respond to the world harmlessly, yet boldly.

When evil threatens our character, reputation, or possessions, we can be tempted to react. Yet, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord (Rom. 12:19). In Gethsemane Jesus did not retaliate (Matt. 26:47–54), and on the cross He prayed, “Father, forgive them” (Lk. 23:34). He responded with forgiveness and left judgment to God.

Our actions must reflect the love God poured into our hearts, and that love seeks to restore people. Yet Ps. 1:1–3 teaches us to be discerning where we walk, stand, and sit. We love people without entering environments that influence us to participate in unrighteousness or pursue worldly gain unrighteously.

We may have to stand for our belief as Jesus stood before Pilate (Jn. 18:33–38). What we face is common to man, and God is faithful to provide a way through it (1 Cor. 10:13).

Believers obey the purpose for which God called them. We are not creators of our purpose to boast in ourselves. Our responsibility is to obey God and express His love to the world.
