Be Still and Wait on God in Your Season of Uncertainty

The Season - God Brings You In to Speak to You

We read the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus, that "You must be born again" (John 3:7). Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God" (John 3:5). Jesus rebuked and questioned Nicodemus, a teacher of Israel, because if he could not understand the things of the flesh, then it would be hard for him to understand the heavenly things (John 3:12).

We read another conversation between Jesus and Nathanael. Nathanael was surprised that Jesus knew him even before he met Him for the first time (John 1:43-48). Jesus answered and said to him, "Because I said to you, 'I saw you under the fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than these." And He said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man" (John 1:50-51).

Jesus said to His disciples, "It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away the Helper will not come to you" (John 16:7). After Jesus' resurrection, but before ascending to the Father, He showed Himself to His disciples, who were in a room with the doors shut because of the fear of the Jews (John 20:19).

We can read in the Gospels that the disciples who had been with Him scattered (Matthew 26:31, John 16:32) after His crucifixion and were in a state of uncertainty (hiding in fear and not believing), so they went back to their homes (John 20:9-10).

The LORD brings us to this state of uncertainty to meet with us. This is the state where what we are familiar with has ended, and what is next is unknown to us. This is the place where we never thought God is present. We read that when they saw the empty tomb, they believed Mary Magdalene's statement that "They have taken away the LORD out of the tomb" (John 20:2), because they did not know the Scripture, that "He must rise again from the dead" (John 20:9). Later, Jesus breathed on them to receive the Holy Spirit and commissioned them (John 20:21-23).

Learn to hear from God in the season of uncertainty. We read in Genesis about Jacob, who laid his head on a rock, and then God spoke to him in a dream about His promises to Jacob (Genesis 28:10-22). Jacob was running from his brother, in an uncertain state of his life, but God brought him to that place to speak to him.

We read that the LORD spoke to Samuel when there was no widespread revelation (1 Samuel 3). It was the end of the season of Eli and the beginning of a new season of Samuel for the Israelites. However, Samuel had yet to learn to hear God (1 Samuel 3:8-9).

As we read in the parable of the wise and foolish virgins (Matthew 25:1-13), be in anticipation to hear the LORD in the season of uncertainty.
